Madrid hosts the Maelicum Gala for the benefit of Civil Guard orphans

Next Saturday 28th October, the Teatro Monumental in Madrid will host the Maelicum Gala in aid of Civil Guard orphans. An extraordinary concert for violin, which will feature international music figures such as the master Rossen Milanov and the violinist Blake Pouliotaccompanied by the Orquesta Filarmónica de España.

It will begin at 19:30 and will consist of the violin concerto in D Major, Op. 35, composed by Tchaikovsky in 1878. A work from the Romantic period considered one of the most difficult for that instrument.

The concert aims to support the Association for the Orphans of the Guardia Civil (Asociación Pro Huérfanos de la Guardia Civil) (APHGC), which works for the benefit of civil guards and their families. Its main tasks are to take in the orphans of deceased members, to provide them with education and to help them through pensions, scholarships and other financial and social contributions.

It is a great opportunity to enjoy live Rossen MilanovMilanov is the Bulgarian-American conductor of the Columbus Symphony, Chautauqua Symphony, Princeton Symphony and Principal Conductor of the RTV Orchestra of Slovenia. Milanov has shared the stage with some of the world's leading artists, including Yo-Yo Ma, Itzhak Perlman, Joshua Bell, Midori, Christian Tetzlaff and André Watts.

For his part, the Canadian violinist Blake Pouliot has been described by the Toronto Star as "one of those special talents that comes along once in a lifetime". He is resident soloist with the Montreal Metropolitan Orchestra and plays on a 1729 Guarneri del Gesù violin. Since his orchestral debut at the age of 11, Pouliot has performed with orchestras in Aspen, Atlanta, Detroit, Dallas, Madison, Montreal, Toronto, San Francisco and Seattle, among many others. He has also performed as soloist with the Sofia Philharmonic and the Orchestra of the Americas, among others.

Together with them, the Orquesta Filarmónica de España has a staff made up of excellent performers with extensive experience in the symphonic and chamber music fields.

The concert is an initiative of Maelicum Hispania Conciertos, a private organisation dedicated to the programming and dissemination of classical music performances in Spain. Its aims include supporting emerging Spanish performers and composers, as well as bringing the enjoyment of classical music to new groups.

PROA Communication supports this initiative and joins in the promotion of the concert for the benefit of the APHGC.
