Emotional management of the coronavirus crisis

Proa Comunicación offers an emotional management service for the coronavirus crisis. Ana R. Heras PiedrabuenaHR consultant and trainer at Proa Comunicación, helps companies to avoid the paralysis that this situation can cause.

"Fear paralyses us. In ancient times, human beings were in a permanent state of emergency, they had no explanation for what was happening in nature, diseases, infections, death, with very short life expectancies. All that has remained in our brain, in our emotional system. It has been alleviated, and not too much, by culture, injecting knowledge and explanations.

Already in today's life we are not aware that these fears of the unknown are very difficult to bear, because they activate those terrors that are in our genetics. In this case, with the coronavirus, we do not see the enemy, like those primitives, we do not know when or where he will attack us, we have the feeling of not being able to neutralise the enemy, of not being able to dominate our reality. At this point, society becomes hypochondriacal, the hypochondriac is terrified of the disease, he tries to locate it and name it.

Now we don't know if our neighbours, relatives or we ourselves can become infected, we don't trust anyone anymore. The collective emotion is one of panic, our anxiety is compounded by the memory of the devastating effects of the previous economic crisis. When that crisis hit, we did not know how far-reaching it would be, nor the effects it would have on our lives. Those effects left us traumatised as a society, amplifying the emotional effect of this crisis that we are beginning to experience these days. We are talking about a sum of emotional traumas that we carry engraved in our emotional system.

The problem is that, if we go into panic and survival mode, our creativity is cancelled, our capacity to work, to fight, to get ahead is cancelled. Businesses and entrepreneurs are paralysed, they "freeze" in the face of terror.

That is why it is more important than ever to relativise, to protect ourselves, to be especially careful with the elderly. But beware of dogmatisms, ideologies, exclusive beliefs, because they give us the security of being beyond doubt, beyond the wrong ones, on the side of the good ones, evil localised, neutralised, that is another plague, in this case of the mind".

José Antonio Rodríguez Piedrabuena -- Is the human brain really different?

Human brains did not evolve from reptilian brains by developing additional parts to house emotion. We do not have an inner snake or an emotional monkey to be controlled, as some courses offer, which, on the other hand, do not really question anything personal or corporate. The...

The age of doubt, savings and simplification

Discovery is born of curiosity, curiosity being the daughter of doubt, the awareness that we know nothing (or little) about the world that surrounds us or that could surround us. It is because of all this that we continue to wonder and search around us for these elements. There are also...

Artificial meat and red meat

We are being managed by companies interested in denigrating a product in order to sell their own. This is happening with milk, to sell so-called plant-based milks, and with meat. By eating meat we are providing our health with most of the nutrients that are essential for our body to function, such as proteins...

José Antonio Rodríguez Piedrabuena -- Why does the brain refuse to change?

Our brains are not looking for the truth, but for everything to be coherent is what is true for them. And they become entrenched there. Once we are militating for something coherent, all the potential of our mind starts to mobilise and it will defend that coherence as the truth. It will no longer be necessary to continue expending energy,...

Lorena Saura -- No culture without communication

"There is no communication without culture, and no culture without communication. Umberto Eco As Umberto Eco rightly pointed out, "there is no communication without culture, and no culture without communication". Communication and culture are intrinsically related from the very first moment in which communicating is part of culture itself and...

An alarming situation

Indeed, the situation was alarming when the alarm state was established. And then? Now it is chaotic and absolutely uncoordinated, the General Council of Nurses has said, because of the incessant contagion by coronavirus without protective measures. For its part, the General Council of Doctors will appear as an accusation...
