--Roberto Ruiz Ballesteros joins PROA to head up the Litigation Communications Department.

PROA has incorporated the investigative and court journalist Roberto Ruiz Ballesteros to its team. The professional will be responsible for the consultancy firm's Litigation Communications Department. With more than 20 years of experience in different media, Ruiz Ballesteros faces the task of launching a new area that requires a great informative sensitivity in the field of the courts.

Ruiz Ballesteros has worked in the editorial offices of some of the most important media in Spain, such as Expansión, ABC, Cadena SER o El Confidencial. Most of his professional career has been linked to court and investigative journalism, although he has also been involved in reporting on terrorism, economics and events.

He also has extensive experience as a teacher and researcher in different university centres. He is currently a member of the group 'Analytics, Media and Public Engagement: Communication, Journalism and Technology Laboratory' at the Universidad Carlos III de Madrid, in whose Faculty of Humanities, Communication and Documentation he teaches various subjects.

He is a member of the group 'Periodismo Emprende', of the Instituto de Iniciativas Empresariales Conde de Campomanes of the same centre. He is also a lecturer at the Complutense University of Madrid and at the Open University of Catalonia. He has taught at the Training Centre of the General Directorate of the Police. He has received the Silver Medal of the Asociación de Víctimas del Terrorismo and the Juan Carlos Fernández Vales Journalism Award.

"A legal proceeding is a very sensitive moment for those who suffer it, as a lot is at stake", reflects Ruiz Ballesteros, who understands that when the case becomes a media case, a component comes into play that makes it more complex. "The defendant must not only have the best legal defence, but must also be able to rely on public opinion," says the new head of the department.

Ruiz Ballesteros (Granada, 1977) holds a degree in Journalism and Audiovisual Communication from the University of Navarra, a PhD in Information Sciences from the Complutense University of Madrid and is a specialist in Communication and Security from the CEU San Pablo University.
