Trust and credibility

Trust and credibility, over time I have learnt that there are two types 1-hour cash loans for bad credit of politicians: those who believe that communication is too important a thing to be left in the hands of the press officer; and those who tend to think that journalists are all busybodies who want us badly and are therefore best kept at arm's length. Needless to say, the former fare much better than the latter.

Having a fluid relationship with the media is an obligation for any public manager. When a crisis occurs - which comes sooner or later - and the reputation of the political leader, the government or the organisation is threatened, having a prior relationship of trust and credibility with the media makes things much easier.

As we have seen in the previous entry in this blog, good crisis communications are based on a system established in advance (who gives the explanations, where, what message to send...). By sticking to the pre-established plan we may or may not get it right, but by improvising, we will fail for sure. If we have cultivated a relationship of trust and credibility with the media (do not confuse professionalism with chumminess), this will ensure that the media will be more willing to help us. 1 hour cash advance online journalists to be more cooperative and less suspicious when we contact them for explanations. If possible, it is advisable to meet the key informants in person and explain the known facts to them.

The media will write and spread the story with or without your help. Therefore, as a general rule, it is better to participate in the story - even if it is negative - than to stay on the sidelines. That way, at least we will have the opportunity to give our version of what happened. Two last recommendations: don't lose your temper (be polite, good humour always helps) and be honest (tell the truth and do it quickly; if you take too long, it will look like you don't know what to say or that you are hiding something).

The public wants to see the top leader at the forefront of the crisis. Appearing before the press will give him credibility. A badly managed crisis (the Aznar government after 9/11) can sink you. But a well-managed crisis (Mayor Giuliani of New York after 9/11) not only preserves prestige and credibility, it even reinforces it.
