EAE Business School interviews Álvaro Ramos Izquierdo, consultant for Proa Comunicación

EAE interview

Linked to cultural and sports journalism, Álvaro Ramos Izquierdo developed his professional career in media such as SensaCine or Marca before training in the Master's Degree in Digital Communication and Journalism during the years 2014/2015. "Digital communication is the present and the futureThis training allows us to approach many concepts that are key in the day-to-day work of many companies," he says of the programme. After his time in the EAE classrooms, he completed his training in Madisonwhere he has been for more than a year and a half.

He has recently been given the opportunity to join as a consultant for Proa ComunicaciónHe says he had no hesitation in accepting it. "The size of his clients, the possibilities for personal growth, and the confidence shown in me from the very first moment, were key aspects in my interest," he confesses.

You have been working as a consultant for Proa Comunicación for only two months. Why did you choose to change?

The company and the position are more oriented to the training I have received in recent years and to an area I have always enjoyed: the communication. When the opportunity arose, I didn't hesitate too much in terms of professional activity, because communication allows me to put into practice more of the knowledge acquired in SEA. The size of its customers, the possibilities of professional growthand the confidence shown in me from the very beginning were key aspects in my interest.

What would you highlight about the company and its working environment?

I highly value the trust and the dynamism of your day-to-day work. In a young and flexible company where you can grow a lot as a professional, because you feel that you are supported by your colleagues and that the responsibility is shared. The team spirit is embodied in the services we provide to our clients and the achievement of objectives is more stimulating. Professionalism in consultancy is one of the aspects that have impressed me the most. As a determinant of public opinion, communication is of vital importance, and at Proa Comunicación I am learning to manage it very effectively.

What are your short- and long-term career goals?

In the short term, I want to repay all the trust that Proa Comunicación has placed in me and continue growing and training in a field that I am passionate about. Being alongside great professionals is an opportunity that, with great enthusiasm and responsibility, represents all the reasons why you have been trained with so much dedication. In such a dynamic working environment, the long term is becoming less and less relevantWe should only think about how to improve day by day and bring more of ourselves to the working environment.

In such a global and competitive market, do you think the market is increasingly looking for small agencies and/or freelancers rather than large companies?

The market is evolving towards models that are as divergent as they are innovative. I don't think you look at size so much as the needs you have. More and more specific needs are emerging for which the market has developed a solution. In addition, disruptive new business models emerge that completely change the established rules. In many cases, the market tends towards the cooperation of several smaller companies.

In your opinion, how is the importance of content in relation to a brand evolving as a result of the internet and social media? What is the trend?

Content is emerging as a the greatest exponent of a brand in the digital sphere. Once they have understood that users demand solutions, content has become the main element of differentiation. Brands create websites that nurture content that can be useful for their potential consumers. Car brands generate content related to vehicle maintenance, clothing brands generate content with the latest trends, film distributors generate content related to the characters in their films, and so on and so forth. The trend is towards strategies multi-device. Once the market has understood the need to generate content (also in video format), the need to adapt it to the channels and devices on which consumers are present has become crucial. Cross-device will mark the trail to be followed in the coming years.

You studied at EAE Business School in Master's Degree in Digital Communication and JournalismHow did the academic year help you to elaborate your day-to-day work at Proa Comunicación or on the web?

The training at EAE, with almost two years of perspective, was vital. It is true that, like any first edition of a training programme, I needed to optimise some aspects, but the evolution experienced thanks to some of the trainers has been key to my subsequent development in the company.

Beyond training, do you maintain contact with your classmates and/or students?

Of course, it is nice to keep colleagues and even to have some friendships beyond the training itself. Also, working in the same sector, there are always questions that your former colleagues can help you with. Many of the challenges we face on a day-to-day basis are common, so despite working in different companies, it is important to feel that you have their help.

What would you highlight about the Master and the School?

The Master's Degree is a great relief after what has been learnt in communication training courses that are anchored in an old and obsolete model. Digital communication is the present and the futureThis training provides an insight into many concepts that are key to the day-to-day running of many companies. Its multidisciplinary orientation is its great strength.

As for the School, once you have finished your studies, you value the quality of many teachers y the practical orientation of its classes. In addition, a good atmosphere both in class and in the rest of the school is essential for a good integration in an environment that is similar to a work environment.
