Juan María Nin: "Europe must stay united if it wants to remain relevant".

The President of the Círculo de Empresarios analysed, during the first 2025 session of the Current Affairs Dialogues The main challenges that Europe and Spain must face in order to regain global prominence.

The President of the Círculo de Empresarios, Juan María NinThe 2025 sessions of the Current Affairs Dialogues from PROA CommunicationThe event will be held at the "Corporate Communication and Reputation", a consultancy firm specialising in designing, managing and consolidating the communication and corporate reputation of institutions and companies, as well as of senior executives. With the title "Turning point and change of millennium"Nin analysed how Europe and Spain must face the current geopolitical scenario and what are the main tasks pending in order to regain global prominence. These reflections were made in front of a large group of businessmen, representatives of sectoral associations and decision-makers.

During his speech, Juan María Nin pointed out that Europe must follow the trend of acting as a bloc in order not to lose weight as a relevant actor between the blocs formed by the United States on the one hand and China on the other: "Europe's priority is political union. If we manage to stick together and act as a single bloc, we will regain our influence in the international arena. However, if this union fragments, Europe will have no relevance on the new geopolitical chessboard. To move towards this integration, it is necessary to consolidate not only the social and political foundations, but also the financial ones.

In the conversation, which was moderated by Miguel Ángel NocedaPresident of the Spanish Federation of Journalists' Associations (FAPE), Juan María Nin added, referring to the president of the United States, Donald Trump, and the phenomenon of the extreme right in Europe, that "the new president will influence European politics, and it is possible that the political extremes will weaken. At the centre is virtue, balance and the measure of change".

At the beginning of the meeting, which was attended by numerous senior executives and managers of Spanish companies, Valvanuz SernaThe topic addressed in the session is particularly crucial, she explained, because "the world is undergoing a profound transformation, marked by the rise of new powers, the retreat of globalisation and a reordering of international relations. At the heart of this transformation is the rivalry between the United States and China, with strong technological competition, especially in areas such as artificial intelligence and the digital economy.

He added that "the rise of nationalism and populism is disrupting global supply chains and pushing countries to rethink their economic dependencies, particularly in critical sectors such as energy and advanced technologies".

At the close of the first 2025 edition of the Current Affairs DialoguesAt the meeting, the participants had the opportunity to talk to Juan María Nin about the competitiveness of the European market, the impact of the migration process at a global level, and the challenges in defence, technological development and education.
