La Concordia

Concord was the leitmotiv of the Transition, the desire that what happened during the Dictatorship «would never happen again».

These days we are celebrating 50 years since the restoration of the Monarchy. The academic ceremony held in the Congress of Deputies has served to recognise the role played by King Juan Carlos I and also the desire of consensus and reconciliation that the Spanish people demonstrated and that the Crown channelled to perfection. The task undertaken by the King Emeritus together with Torcuato Fernández Miranda and Adolfo Suárez resulted in the greatest period of peace and prosperity that Spaniards have ever enjoyed in our history.

I am 50 years old and this spirit that drove the Spanish miracle we have been living through for the last half century should be recovered today with the King as the axis of «concord» and representative of the unity of the territory. I like the etymology of words; in this way, when we look for the meaning of concordia in the RAE dictionary speaks of: agreement o harmoníabetween divergent individuals or groups. Reconciliationpeace.
