We live at a time in history when change is moving faster than our brains can process. AI is beginning to control everything: politics, the economy and our daily lives to unsuspected limits. Based on an algorithm, a medical treatment, a job search, who gets a loan and, if I may say so, the ideal marriage partner are decided. In the hectic pace of our daily lives, the boundary between public and private has become blurred, porous, and we do not know exactly where to draw the line.
What are the effects of this frenetic pace? One of them is adverse, and that is that our ability to appreciate anything in a lasting way seems to diminish. We become impatient at the slightest frustration and demand more and more guarantees. We lose patience and in this we lose ourselves because continuity and patience are essential conditions for connection and thought. But there are also positive effects. Under the name of «frugalism» a growing group of citizens is rebelling. This new way of life is attracting more and more followers: the happiness of having less.
