-- The VINCI Autoroutes Foundation entrusts PROA with the communication of the European Responsible Driving Barometer for the eighth consecutive year.

The VINCI Autoroutes Foundation has once again entrusted PROA for the eighth consecutive year with the communication of its European Responsible Driving Barometer. This study identifies, through a large survey of drivers in 11 EU countries, their driving habits and highlights the main risks, as well as the improvements needed at the wheel, in order to guide good driving practices.

Created in February 2011, the VINCI Autoroutes Foundation for responsible driving is a laboratory, an observatory and an information tool designed to combat road safety. Its aim is to contribute to improving behaviour on the road and to help drivers to be responsible for their own safety. Its actions include: information campaigns to raise awareness of road risks, the funding of innovative scientific research into certain areas of dangerous driving which have yet to be explored or are poorly identified by road users and, lastly, the funding of associative and citizen initiatives in favour of responsible driving.

Among the conclusions of this year's edition, the following can be highlighted:

  • 16% of European drivers admit to 'becoming someone else' when behind the wheel and believe they become more nervous, impulsive or aggressive. This percentage drops to 15 % in Spanish drivers.
  • 35% of European drivers say they are very nervous on long journeys in heavy traffic. The same sentiment is expressed by 41% of Spanish drivers.
  • 53% of European drivers confess that they honk inappropriately at drivers who irritate them.. However, the percentage reaches 66% for Spanish drivers.
