In Spain hardly anyone apologises any more, but everyone does. Politicians, businessmen, celebrities... and even those who still don't quite know what they are supposed to apologise for. They appear to clarify, contextualise, explain, regret... and, if necessary, to say that they could have made a mistake, that conditional that used to be forbidden in the headlines and that now, as the moderns say, is a must. We are losing our habits and apologising, or rather asking for forgiveness, is becoming increasingly rare.
We have seen it again these days in the political debate. Some demand solemn apologies and others respond that there is nothing to apologise for or that, in any case, we should be proud of what we have done.
