The exhibition 'In the light of the garden. Sorolla - Vicente' at the Esteban Vicente Museum of Contemporary Art in Segovia. An exhibition that has counted on PROA for the management of its communication and that had in this act of premiere its main event. A day in which a press conference and a visit to the exhibition was held for the media prior to the opening to the general public.
The communications consultancy firm has also carried out the digital strategy of the museum through its social media channels and the management of influencers so that they can visit the museum and give visibility to the works.
The gardens of Esteban Vicente and Sorolla will illuminate the summer in Segovia and New York with the light and colour of works inspired by their particular 'edens', through two mirror exhibitions. The one in Segovia will remain open until 2 October and the one in New York, at the Parrish Art Museum, will be open from 7 August to 16 October.
On the occasion of this exhibition, the Esteban Vicente Museum of Contemporary Art, which houses the work of the Spanish artist who was part of the New York School of American Abstract Expressionism, is showing 80 works by Vicente and Sorolla inspired by his gardens.
The curator of the exhibition and director of the Segovia museum, Ana Doldán de Cáceres, explained that the show "highlights the direct relationship of an important selection of works by Esteban Vicente with the garden that he himself cultivated, from 1964, in Bridghampton, Long Island, and, at the same time, echoes the tradition that arose in the late 19th century, in which several artists not only painted gardens, but also created their own, looked after them and turned them into their main source of inspiration. The greatest exponent of this tradition in Spain is Joaquín Sorolla, to whom this exhibition offers a relational nod, based on a small selection of works. ".
Andrew Stein, President of The Harriet and Esteban Vicente Foundation, said, "We couldn't be more thrilled to collaborate with the Museo Sorolla, the Museo Esteban Vicente in Spain and the Parrish Art Museum in New York on such an incredible mirror exhibition that highlights not only two renowned Spanish artists, but also the beautiful inspiration behind their work". He added that "making the gardens of their respective homes the subject of some of their most enjoyed works was not only an exploration of the beauty, colour and light of nature, but also a true homage to their beloved wives, Clotilde and Harriet, which gives a deeper meaning to this exciting joint exhibition.
For his part, Miguel Ángel de Vicente, president of the Segovia Provincial Council and of the Museum, invited us to discover "the similarities between two artists who were very different in form but who, nevertheless, as can be seen in this exhibition, shared passions and characteristics" and thanked "the involvement of the institutions and individuals who have made possible an exhibition which, like the gardens, transmits calm and life and invites us to imagine and explore the settings where two geniuses of light and colour found inspiration in their final brushstrokes; perhaps when it seemed complicated that their immense oeuvre could flourish even more".
In addition, a magnificent bilingual mirror publication has been produced that summarises both proposals for garden paintings. The project also includes a botanical study of the works of Sorolla and Vicente by the researcher Eduardo Barba. Various informative and educational activities and the recreation of part of the Bridgehampton garden around the monolith that marks the resting place of the remains of Esteban Vicente and his wife, Harriet G. Vicente, complete the project.
